Spirit Play Training Costs:
Basically, church sponsor charges participants enough to cover costs of training or applies for a grant to cover it. Churches
usually charge people outside their church about $150 to cover the training costs if there is airfare and hotel involved.
Church or district sponsor is also responsible for registering participants, collecting money, and lunch for the day.
Now booking for2008:
$1150 honorarium for a 9am to 5 pm training for up to 15 people and will include the materials fee and postage usually
charged separately. There is no discount for fewer participants.
Check is due the day of the training.
As of 2008: Cancellation fee once date is held: $200. If you reschedule there is a $100 fee for changing the date. Please
make sure that you have enough interest before scheduling a date to avoid fees.
We can also arrange a training midweek, or several evenings in a row.

Travel expenses: round-trip airfare to and from Boston MA or other location depending upon travel schedule, fly in Friday
as early as possible to set up classroom and materials at church, fly out Sunday after church service, coach fare fine, as
few stops as possible, taxi to and from airport in Boston if necessary, to church and back to hotel unless other
transportation provided. If within driving distance, cost of tolls, $.51 a mile car costs. In some cases, instead of airfare, the
cost of a rental car will be included in transportation costs.
If necessary, sometimes flights will be combined to next training. Must be reserved under BONITA PENFOLD.
At Sponsoring Church:
1. Room to do Spirit Play model classroom with rug on floor without chairs and tables if possible but with shelves (this
is flexible, we have used tables as shelves in some instances)--I will bring stories, need access to 12 medium (12" or
smaller) to small baskets (one large one), need access to about 15 medium size trays (plastic are fine with smooth
surface) and art materials you probably have in your resources, need small rugs maybe about 15, either mats or roll up
ones. Need crackers for feast at model classroom and pitcher for water with small (bathroom size) cups and napkins.

2. Room for gathering, food, slides, discussion with chairs for participants--maybe a parlor or more formal room?
Large table set up for resources, name tags for participants and post-it notes.
3. 3 or 4 rooms for practicing stories (can double duty rooms above)
access to slide projector (I will bring carousel of slides) or LCD projector if available. Please let me know which one.
4. copies of packet for each person-- I will send you a packet to copy and assemble
5. lunch for participants 6. childcare if possible for participants
Other:
NEW!!!!!!!I have worked out the shipping issues by reducing the number of stories that I bring to the training so that there
is no longer any need to ship a box back and forth. Story baskets for setting up the model classroom will be brought but
I need someone who can lift a heavy suitcase to meet me at the airport or church to move the materials due to my
back issues.
Participants will receive a small certificate for certification purposes.
I will bring copies of CD with entire curriculum for each person
I will need a person willing to act as the Doorkeeper for the model classroom; either extra person or participant in
training. I can brief them if they can be there ahead at 8:30 am or the day before when I am setting up.
I will need the names and emails and churches of everyone participating as soon as possible and an indication of whether
they have had any Montessori or Godly Play training or workshop experience. I no longer send the stories for preparation;
people all get them the day of the training during the practice time.
You may want to give them a heads-up that they should read Spirit Play: A Manual for Liberal Religious Education
Programs, available through the www.spiritplay.net website after March 15, 2008.
Training costs abbreviated form:
$1150 training fee due day of training (paid to trainer)
Cost of actual airfare or car rental and/or 51 cents per mile for driving (either paid ahead or reimbursed to trainer)
Cost of lunch for all participants
Cost of lodging for Friday/Saturday stay if necessary (paid ahead by church sponsor)
Cost of all meals while traveling and at site for trainer (either paid for or reimbursed to trainer)
Cost of copying and folders if done outside of church
Note: reimbursements are paid with invoice after training
Be aware that there may be a training intern attending the training and leading part of it
as part of the Spirit Play training of trainers. If possible the intern can stay with me in
whatever housing is provided but will not be part of travel reimbursements.
Hotel for Friday and Saturday evenings (with kitchenette if possible) non-smoking room; (home hospitality okay but be
aware I have restricted diet due to food allergies and am allergic to cats and dogs, feathers, and molds so no
basements). All meals paid for or provided by sponsor-access to some organic or natural food (mostly organic if
possible) either in restaurant or in grocery store.
No wheat, any kind of pepper including chili peppers, or mushrooms.
